Multimorbidities and polypharmacy in ageing hemophilia patients

Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate whether multimorbidities, comorbidities, and therefore polypharmacy increase with age in hemophilia A B patients followed Ege University Adult Hemophilia Thrombosis Center. Materials Methods: were retrospectively evaluated. Patients'demographic data, medical information about hemophilic arthropathy, viral infections hepatitis C virus (HCV), body mass index (BMI), smoking alcohol consumption, concomitant diseases, all medications except factor replacement therapy analyzed. Polypharmacy defined as ≥5 drug use. Patients compared by dividing into two groups: ≤55 years >55 years. Results: total 230 evaluated (189 A, 41 B). There 191 (83%), 39 groups (17%). most common diseases hypertension (19.5%), diabetes mellitus (10%), gastroesophageal reflux disease-chronic gastritis (5.2%). drugs that use regularly non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (14.3%), proton pump inhibitors (12.1%), oral antidiabetics (9.5%). number not related (multimorbidity) aged significantly higher than those <55 (p values 0.00 0.01 respectively). no difference between BMI, cigarette use, history HCV infection. Conclusion: Our showed aging have more multimorbidities younger patients. For this reason, importance effects additional on quality life, treatment compliance, hemostasis is increasing.
